Rather than re-install Windows 10 from scratch, I decided to clone from the old drive to the new drive. So I decided to upgrade my Samsung 860 EVO 250GB 2.5 inch SATA SSD drive to a Crucial P2 500GB NVMe M.2 SSD drive. Supposedly NVMe drives, which look like small circuit boards, are even faster than SATA SSD drives. The amount of backups you make depends on how important your data is and how much disk space do you have available.I discovered that my Dell Optiplex 3050 desktop’s motherboard supported a NVMe M.2 SSD drive.

You can image your system at any point you wish, you can set up daily, weekly or monthly backups.

Regarding the choice between differential and incremental you will have to make for yourself, in order to gain a better understanding of the two backup methods please have a read through the following KB article: If you wish to retain your full system state you will need to image a full disk, if you wish to keep only some partitions of the disk image the partition you wish to retain only. This image can be browsed whenever you need to recover individual files or you can use that image in order to reimage other disks. Imaging will save an image file that can be kept on a separate hard disk along with other files. If you preform a clone all you will need to simply do is exchange the hard disks when the main one fails and youre good to go. Once the cloning is complete, the second disk will be an identical bootable clone/copy of your initial disk and can be used in case of emergency crashes. If you want to retain a clone of your system you will need another hard disk to clone the disk you have to the new disk.
